English Book For Grade XII

The increasingly flat world with information and communication technology means that social interaction can no longer be limited by national borders. The 2013 Curriculum recognizes the important role of English in conveying ideas beyond Indonesia's borders and in absorbing ideas from abroad that can be used for the benefit of the nation. Thus, the formulated competencies of secondary education graduates, which reflect a nation that actively contributes to global interaction and civilization, can be achieved.

In line with this role, the English language learning for Grade XII Secondary Education presented in this book is structured to improve language skills. It is presented using a text-based learning approach, both spoken and written, with English as a medium of communication. Understanding the type, rules, and context of a text is emphasized, making it easier for students to grasp the explicit and implicit meanings within a text; it also allows for the presentation of ideas in a text that is easily understood and appreciated for its beautiful word choice. As part of the 2013 Curriculum, which emphasizes the importance of a balance of attitudes, knowledge, and skills, the required English language skills are developed through continuous learning. This begins with improving knowledge of the types, rules, and context of texts, followed by skills in presenting written and spoken texts. These skills are developed both in a planned and spontaneous manner, using appropriate pronunciation and intonation, and culminate in developing polite language and an appreciation for the beauty of language.

This book outlines the minimum effort students must make to achieve the desired competencies. In line with the approach used in the 2013 Curriculum, students are encouraged to be willing to explore other learning resources available and widely available around them. The teacher's role in enhancing and adapting students' absorption capacity to the activities provided in this book is crucial. Teachers can enrich it with creativity in the form of other appropriate and relevant activities, sourced from the social and natural environment.
